What you are getting for the increase
Microsoft is positioning this as a value update, not just a price hike. New capabilities are being added to existing tiers at no extra cost between June and August 2026. Across the board, every Enterprise, Business, and Frontline suite picks up Copilot Chat enhancements (inbox and calendar awareness plus access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint agents) and Copilot Chat Analytics. Beyond that, individual SKUs gain the following:
Enterprise
- Office 365 E1: URL time-of-click protection, Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.
- Office 365 E3: Microsoft Defender for Office Plan 1, Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.
- Office 365 E5: Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.
- Microsoft 365 E3: Microsoft Defender for Office Plan 1, Microsoft Intune Remote Help, Microsoft Intune Advanced Analytics, Microsoft Intune Plan 2, Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.
- Microsoft 365 E5: Everything in Microsoft 365 E3 plus Microsoft Security Copilot, Microsoft Intune Endpoint Privilege Management, Microsoft Cloud PKI, and Microsoft Intune Enterprise Application Management.
Business
- Microsoft 365 Business Basic: 50 GB mailbox bump, URL time-of-click protection, Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.
- Microsoft 365 Business Standard: 50 GB mailbox bump, URL time-of-click protection, Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.
- Microsoft 365 Business Premium: 50 GB mailbox bump, Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.

- Microsoft 365 F3: Copilot Chat enhancements, Copilot Chat Analytics.

Frontline and per-device licensing get hit hardest
If you license Frontline workers, expect the biggest jumps. Microsoft 365 F1 climbs 33% with Teams and 43% without. Microsoft 365 F3 goes up 25% (or 29% without Teams). Per-device SKUs are also seeing outsized increases: Windows Enterprise per device is up 31%, and Microsoft 365 Apps per device is up 17%.
Worth a closer look if you split Microsoft Teams off from your suite to save a few dollars per user. The math on that approach changes after July 1, and in many cases the bundled SKU is now the better value.
What to do before July 1, 2026
Existing customers keep current pricing until their next renewal, so the action items here are mostly about timing.
- Check your renewal date. If you renew between now and June 30, 2026, you can lock in current pricing for the new term length.
- Reconsider month-to-month. Annual commitments before July 1 typically beat the new monthly rates.
- True up seats now. Adds and seat increases after July 1 will price at the new rate.
- Audit no-Teams variants. If you split Teams off, run the new numbers. The savings shrink or vanish on Frontline plans.
- Look at what you already pay separately. If you license Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Intune Plan 2, or Microsoft Security Copilot as add-ons, the new bundled Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 may now cost less in total.

Are Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot prices changing?
No. Standalone Microsoft Teams and standalone Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses are explicitly excluded from the July 2026 price update. Their prices remain unchanged. The change applies to commercial Microsoft 365 suites (Enterprise, Business, Frontline) and standalone components like Microsoft 365 Apps, Windows E3 and E5, Enterprise Mobility + Security E3 and E5, and Microsoft Entra Plan 1 and Plan 2.
Will my current Microsoft 365 price change before my renewal?
No. Existing customers remain on their current pricing for the duration of their current term. The new prices apply at the next renewal on or after July 1, 2026. Mid-term seat additions and true-ups after July 1, 2026 will be priced at the new rates.
What new features is Microsoft adding to Microsoft 365 plans?
Microsoft is adding capabilities to most existing tiers at no extra cost between June and August 2026. Microsoft 365 E3 picks up Microsoft Defender for Office Plan 1, Intune Remote Help, Intune Advanced Analytics, and Intune Plan 2. Almost every commercial tier receives Copilot Chat enhancements (inbox and calendar awareness plus access to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint agents) and Copilot Chat Analytics.
Does the Microsoft 365 price change affect nonprofit pricing?
Yes. Nonprofit Microsoft 365 pricing follows the same percentage change as commercial pricing, though absolute prices remain lower at the standard 60 to 75% nonprofit discount. The packaging additions also apply to nonprofit subscriptions.
Does the Microsoft 365 price change affect government pricing?
Yes, with phased implementation. Government customers facing total increases over 10% (such as Microsoft 365 F1 at 33%, F3 at 25%, and Office 365 E3 at 13%) will have those increases phased over multiple years per federal regulations. Government packaging updates may also lag the commercial rollout while features complete FedRAMP and data-residency validation.
Should I renew my Microsoft 365 license before July 1, 2026?
It depends on your renewal date and term. If your renewal falls between now and June 30, 2026, renewing before that date can lock in current pricing for your new term. Customers on month-to-month commitments often save by switching to an annual term before July 1. The right choice depends on seat count trends, current SKU mix, and add-on licensing.
